Dear University of British Columbia and GVRD Policy and Planning
Department:
Please OPPOSE the proposed 18-story towers for dorms at UBC.
They are completely incompatible with one of your most precious resources that makes you unique and neat - the *natural* park of Wreck Beach with its naturist use - a place to regain human sanity in our boxed in and overdeveloped continent.
Endangering your naturist beach is like Paris tearing down the Eiffel Tower to make way for some department stores. Wreck Beach is a unique attraction of your city and symbol of something good and unusual.
Treasure what you have - it is fast disappearing everywhere, and for that reason becoming more valuable.
In an age where uniqueness is everywhere being suppressed for mass consumerism, a unique beach like yours should be protected, cherished, and promoted, not dissed and developed. It will be a treasure to your city and your university for decades and perhaps lifetimes to come, if you treat it right.
Building 18-story buildings will destroy the escape and atmosphere that Wreck Beach offers to Canadian citizens and visitors alike.
Thank you,
Marvin Frandsen
