Sample Letters to Inspire you to Keep Those Letters Flowing
The letters below are just fifteen out of over 1,151 letters received as of November 25, 2005. They protest the Phase Two Marine Towers at their proposed heights and locations. We include these letters to inspire you to continue lending your voice to those who have spoken out to protect park and beach viewscapes and sense of wilderness so precious and fragile in an increasingly urbanized world. Whether one believes the statistics that say one letter is worth 100 or 500 letters not written by others of like-minded persuasion, either figure multiplied by 1,151 signifies a great deal of world-wide protest. Those who have already written have helped encourage the GVRD to hold the line and protect park values on their July 29, 2005 resolution. As a result, on November 25, 2005, the outgoing GVRD Board of Directors voted unanimously to direct the Chair and the Chief Administrative Officer of the GVRD Board to meet with UBC officials, including the President, to ask if UBC would be voting to move ahead with Phase Two of the Marine Towers development before GVRD could vote in February 2006. If the answer was that UBC would not wait for the GVRD, then a special session of the GVRD Board would be convened to determine GVRD's "legal response."
The other unanimous motion passed by the outgoing GVRD Board was to direct GVRD Staff to make long-term recommendations on the advisability and feasibility of altering the zoning by-laws affecting UBC's ability to grant itself building permits. Please stand up and be counted for the love of your park and beach by continuing to write about the importance of a wilderness-like Wreck Beach to you, if you have not yet done so. Thank you so much to all of you who already have made a difference because "If not you, then who?" to quote a Naturist Action Committee slogan.
Most naturally yours, Judy Williams, Chair, Wreck Beach Preservation Society, judyw@wreckbeach.org
